Many spiritual and motivational teachers adamantly preach that gratitude is essential for “The Good Life.” Being grateful for everything in our life is the beginning of making space for new things to enter. When there’s nothing to be thankful for, start with something simple. “I’m grateful for this cup of coffee and the fact that I can taste.”
Rhonda Byrne, the creator of the Secret puts it like this: “If you are not emanating gratitude from your being, then by default you are emanating ungratefulness.” This means that the universe and everyone around you sees you as undeserving of great things.
What made me think of this today is that tomorrow is July 1st – Canada Day. I was so unhappy going to work today instead of having a long weekend but now, tonight, I’m so happy I don’t have to work tomorrow. I also realized that I’m grateful that I live in a country that lets me (and all women) work so we can appreciate a day off. And, all my different colour (yes, we spell it with a “u”), gay (shout out to World Pride Toronto), disabled friends can work too. And if we can’t work, Canada helps us out.
And if we want to get married to anyone we want, Canada says it’s okay. It’s still not the case everywhere in the world, so it’s a pretty big deal.
I am so grateful to live in such an amazing and beautiful country. Happy Birthday Canada!
And an early Happy Independence Day, USA!
